Designer Biography

Over 30+ BROADWAY SHOWS, including Class Act (Sarah Ramirez), Grease (John Travolta), Agnes of God (Amanda Plummer), Yentl (Tovah Feldshuh), Sweet Bird of Youth (Lauren Bacall), Frankenstein (Diane Wiest), Happy End (Meryl Streep), Boys Of Winter(Matt Dillan/Wesley Snipes), Cyrano (Frank Langella).

AWARDS: TDF's "2012-LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT" for Costume Design. 2 'Tony' Nominations, 5 Drama Desk Awards, Maharam, 3 USITT/Prague International, Hughes noms., F.I.T-Surface Design, Audelco, NYITA among others.

She designed M. Butterfly, On the Verge (Arena Stage), & Death in Venice (Glimmerglass Opera) for director Tazewell Thompson, the Irving Berlin musical "White Christmas" directed by Walter Bobbie which has played on Broadway, across the USA, England & Scotland, the Gershwin musical American in Paris (Alley Theatre, Houston), Samson et Dalila (San Francisco Opera), and many others. Her designs for "The New Nutcracker" can be seen each Christmastime at the Cincinnati Ballet.

Known for her drawing skill, Robbins' work appears in the Time-Life Series "Collectibles" and Lynn Pecktal's "Costume Design, Techniques of Modern Masters" (Watson-Guptil). A monograph: The Designs of Carrie Robbins (USITT/B'way Press) is now available at Amazon.com & Drama BookShop, NYC. Robbins is also profiled in "Contemporary Designers" (St.James Press), a broad compendium of contemporary designers covering beyond theatrical design.

In 2008-09 Robbins was co-curator with the NY Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center of the exhibit: "CURTAIN CALL - Celebrating A Century of Women Designing for Live Performance". A profusely illustrated catalog with her commentary is still available at the Library.

As a playwright, Robbins' work has appeared at LaMaMa & TACT-The Actors Company Theatre, NYC. Her double-bill " Sawbones & The Diamond Eater" appeared this year at HERE Arts/NYC. It received 6 nominations from NY's Innovative Theatre Awards (Off-Off-B'way), including one for Costumes.
